September is such a wonderful time on Whidbey Island. The summer crowds begin to taper off, but the weather often stays mild, giving us the best of both worlds: quieter days and beautiful scenery.
It’s also the month where the island begins its gentle shift into autumn, making it a perfect time to enjoy local events, shop small, and soak up the unique charm of our community.
Here are a few ways you can celebrate September on Whidbey:
🍂 Attend Local Fall Events
Oak Harbor Music Festival (Labor Day Weekend) – Downtown Oak Harbor comes alive with music, food vendors, and local artists. This is always a favorite way to wrap up the summer and ease into fall. One of the most beloved Whidbey Island September events.
Coupeville Farmers Market – Every Saturday through mid-October, you can stroll Front Street and pick up local produce, handmade goods, and baked treats. Don’t miss Pie Lady’s seasonal pies or Bell’s Farm’s fresh veggies.
Bayview Farmers Market (Langley) – Another gem, running Saturdays through the end of September. It’s a great spot to enjoy live music, pick up flowers, and grab a snack from local vendors.
🍎 Enjoy the Harvest Season
September is prime harvest time on Whidbey. Stop by 3 Sisters Market in Coupeville for island-raised meats and local goods, or visit Greenbank Farm to explore the shops and take home some Whidbey pies (the loganberry pie is a must-try!). If you’re in Oak Harbor, The Farm Stand has a pumpkin patch that usually opens later in September, a fun family stop to kick off fall traditions.
☕ Cozy Up with a Fall Drink
There’s no better way to welcome fall than with a warm drink. Try the seasonal lattes at Whidbey Coffee, grab a chai from Honeymoon Bay in Oak Harbor, or cozy up with a classic cappuccino at Flower House Cafe in Langley.
🌊 Take Advantage of the Weather
September often brings crisp mornings and sunny afternoons, ideal for a walk at Ebey’s Landing, a hike at Deception Pass State Park, or even just a picnic at Joseph Whidbey State Park. The sunsets this time of year are stunning, and you’ll often find the trails a little less crowded than in summer.
Whether you’re new to the island or a longtime resident, September is the perfect time to slow down and enjoy what makes Whidbey so special. From farm stands to festivals, coffee shops to coastal trails, there’s something for everyone this season.
✨ Simona’s Tip: One of my favorite fall traditions is grabbing a marionberry pie from Greenbank Farm, packing a thermos of coffee, and heading to Ebey’s Landing for a sunset walk. It’s the perfect way to savor the season!
